My application for a Clergy Renewal Grant from the Lilly Foundation

has been turned down. I can apply again next year.

To be or not to be

With a month to go before learning if my Lilly Clergy Renewal Grant application has been approved, the time of waiting continues.

A year from now...

Turku Cathedral

In one year's time, if all goes well, I will be in Turku, Finland and starting my second month of my Clergy Renewal Grant experience.

On the road to adventure

The sabbatical will involve several different means of transportation, and each will involve a degree of flexibility...

Automobiles: Belinda will be my driver to/from Boulder to Denver Int'l Airport. I will also be renting a car in Finland.

Buses: Buses will be the means of transportation from Barcelona to Andorra as well as on numerous day trips taken over the course of the trip.

Ferry: Ferry rides will be featured on the Baltic portion of the trip: Stockholm, Sweden (with a stop in Mariehamn, Åland Islands) to Turku, Finland.

Planes: I'll take to the air several times over the course of the sabbatical journey:  Denver, Colorado to Paris, France; Barcelona, Spain to Lisbon, Portugal; Lisbon, Portugal to New York City, NY; and NYC to Denver, Colorado.

Trains: I'll be making good use of the excellent European rail system during the time I'll be away. From the south of France to northern Finland, Europe will be seen on the rails.

Changes and revisions

The planning for next year's sabbatical, provided through funding from the Lilly Foundation's Clergy Renewal Program, continues with items being added and taken off the itinerary with great frequency!

The packet of materials for the application for the Lilly Foundation's Clergy Renewal Program has been mailed! Now the anticipation begins of the announcement that is expected sometime in August of this year.
